wolfgangreborn:

Falling into those brown eyes

“Hi,” you say as you caress his shoulder.
“Hi,” he smiles back.
“Worn out?”
He nods but looks happy. “I’m exhausted.”
“Well your tour bus doesn’t leave until 9 pm tonight, so you can sleep all day if you want.”
“But…I don’t wanna. I want to spend it with you.”
“Aww, babe.” You lean over to kiss his forehead. “You’re very sweet, but you would also be useless. Get some rest. I’ll wake you up for lunch.”
“You promish?”
“Yes.”
“Thatsh good.” He lowers himself back to the pillow, and in seconds he’s snoring.

I snort and shake my head. Dead to the world.

We had broken up before he went on tour. Not that we really wanted to break up, but that he was going on tour for six weeks and his band was getting a lot of attention. That’s a long time to be apart, especially with cute boys in every city waiting with a click of an app. We always prided ourselves on being a realistic, casual couple, but both of us were trying to out-stoic the other in being chill about the break up. Neither wanted of us wanted it, and we took our pain in silence. Time heals all wounds right?

I tried to ignore that halfway through said tour it came through Austin, and that they had the next day off in Austin, and I tried not to show any interest in the show. I wasn’t expecting him to show up at my door that evening of the show – when he was supposed to be at sound-check, that asshole – with red eyes, telling me he missed me, he was lonely, he was in love with me, and he also, did he say he missed me?
I mean, what guy doesn’t want to hear that? Swept me right off my feet. I may have cried when we made up in the hallway. He guest listed me for the show, and we left as soon as his set was finished. I was still bewildered at the fact I got laid last night and woke up with him in my bed. I watched him sleep. Yep, he was very much here… in my bed. Mr. I’m Slowly Getting Famous just wanted to sleep in my bed. Good Christ. I felt my chest getting tight.

The next three weeks of this tour were going to be painful for an entirely new reason. It was going to suck waiting for him to get home so we could pick up from where we left off.

But I still had at least half a day with him today. I decided to pack a lunch so we could take it to the park together. It would be a date. It would be romantic. It would be just us.

Your pup has a habit of being way too social with strangers, so you had to secure him to the lockers in the gym while you went to exercise. You know exactly where he is, and that he’s not getting into trouble. You’re also pretty sure he’s getting lots of pets, scritches, and butt slaps, all of which he loves, so your boy enjoys your gym time and isn’t bored. Having a high-energy pup has been a challenge, but over-coming it together as a duo has improved your relationship.

Plus, your boy loves the reward of smelling your clothes when you’re off in the shower. Win/win.

The thief stared in shock. He realized quickly that he had made a mistake. He picked the wrong apartment to try and rob. The wrong patio to hop over. Cause seriously, what the hell – they were DUDES in dog outfits! Like bodyguard outfits! And one was growling!

The thief changed his mind real quick. That laptop in the window wasn’t worth it! He threw his crowbar into the grass and hopped right back over that fence – but he felt tugging on his shoe! He looked back and yelped. God, one of the dog boys had his shoe and he looked mad! The thief let his foot slip out of it. Fuck, he wasn’t looking back again. He’d come back for that shoe later.

The thief could hear them “barking” as he ran off.

He had no idea the whole thing was caught on video, and soon he’d be the laughing stock of the kink community.

The pups got filet mignon wrapped in bacon that night.

Caleb mulled this over in his head for the millionth time. This was either going to be a new beginning for his partner Hank, or Caleb was going to end up in a studio apartment with a new dog. One or the other. Caleb gave the puppy a scritch. “Either way, I’ll take care of you.”
The puppy licked his hand. It was hard to be logical with a face that cute.

Caleb also knew that getting pets as gifts was a bad idea, but he assured himself it wasn’t exactly impromptu. Hank had told him he wanted a dog one day. He still had a photo in their room of his childhood dog, T-bone. Their lives as a couple had been so turbulent lately. Going to the MIddle East had been a bad idea for a young man already stamping down trauma from sexual abuse in his teens. It had just made things so much worse when Hank came home. Caleb barely recognized him.

Hank tried though to get better, and Caleb still loved him even though he was broken. He wanted to help. Caleb wanted someone there when he had to work and Hank felt alone. Caleb had read another story of a man who had escaped depression with a pup. This had to work.

Caleb pulled in the driveway. He texted Hank. “You here right?”
A long moment passed. Caleb wondered if he’d been in the bathroom.

“Yeah why?” Hank typed back.
“Good. I got a surprise for you.”
“Should I come out?” The response was a bit quicker this time.
“No I’ll come in.”
“???”

Caleb turned off the truck. “Alright, Eugena, ready to go meet your new Daddy?”
The puppy’s tail wagged. Caleb picked her up and she squirmed in his hands.
“Alright, Batgirl, hold still now.” Caleb got out of the cab and shoved his phone into his pocket. “Alright, alright.”

Caleb came in the house. “Hank?”
“Yeah?”
“Come here, I want you to meet someone.”
Caleb heard the footballs. Hank came around the corner from the kitchen and stopped. He stared at Caleb, and at Eugena, dumbfounded. “…You got a dog?” he whispered.
“I got you a dog,” Caleb corrected. He set the puppy down and pointed. “Go on, go say hi.”

Hank got down on a knee. “Come here, baby.”
Eugena was a smart girl. She bolted over and Hank scooped her up. “Hello! Aren’t you precious? Oh my god you are so precious. Aww yes, hi…” Hank leaned against the wall of the hallway, body folded around the small dog licking his face. “You are so precious… oh Caleb, I can’t believe this. She’s perfect!” Hank hugged her.

Caleb watched Hank’s shoulders hitch and he realized his partner was crying. Caleb found himself pushing tears of his own out of his eyes.
“She’s pretty cute,” Caleb said.
“I love her so much. Oh Caleb, thank you thank you. She’s so warm.”

Caleb sniffled. “I’m not sure you’ll be thanking me when you have to house break her, but …she should keep you company and give you structure when I’m here. She’ll keep you safe.”
“She’s perfect,” Hank repeated. “What’s her name?”
“Well, the shelter called her Eugena.”
“mmm. I think we can keep that for now. Oof, you sure do like giving kisses.” Hank looked at Caleb. “Thank you. More than you’ll ever know. I love you and appreciate you, and I am so glad you stick with me even when i suck.”
“You don’t suck. Your brain is making you think you suck. We’re gonna fix that.” Caleb smiled and went to go get tissues. He was feeling flushed with success. Caleb didn’t know that while he was gone, Hank was thinking of going into the garage and running the car. He was just thinking of ending everything. That’s why there’d been a long pause. Hank was on the way to the garage, when his phone dinged, and Hank made the decision to answer it.

In the weeks, and months, that followed, Hank began to feel he made the right choice by looking at his phone. It was a decision he dwelled on even years down the road, like when Eugena became the ring bearer at their wedding. Hank couldn’t fathom not being around for moments like this. I mean, you couldn’t believe how cute that dog was with a flower crown on. Oh, and Caleb was not bad looking in a suit either.

Here comes The Sun.

“Hi there, welcome to Sun Coffee. The usual?” Donovan chirped.
“Er. Er. Yes. You know my usual?”
“Chai with cinnamon, coconut milk. Medium.”
Evan flushed. “Yes. That’s it.”
Donovan rang him up. “$4.06.”
Evan passed over his card. “Here you go.” There was a moment of quiet as the card processed. “That uh, shirt looks good on you.”
Donovan smiled way too wide for a response. He could feel Katie’s gaze burning into the back of his neck. Yesterday’s conversation with the barista was still fresh on his mind:
“Another chai for our regular, Katie.”
“Ha, a regular? You know he wasn’t a regular before you got here.”
“What?”
“He only comes in on days you work. …What? You never noticed?”
Donovan stared at her until a customer rang the bell at the counter and made him jump.

“Ok sign here.” Donovan turned the screen around. Evan signed. “All set. Number 18.”
“Thank you.”
“No, thank you.”
They looked at each-other. Donovan thought Evan was going to say something. Donovan raised an eyebrow. Evan turned pink again. Donovan thought it was pretty how the color showed up behind the freckles.
“Sorry. Nevermind.” Evan grabbed the metal sign with the 18 on it and went to his table. He looked defeated.

Donovan could hear Katie giggling behind him.
Hush.
“He’s SO cute, but so pitiful. I can’t stand it. If you don’t take him, I will.”
Donovan made a face. “…I don’t think it works like that.”
Katie shrugged and made the chai latte. “Just saying. I mean, we like the money he spends, but he’s gonna go broke here if he hasn’t already. Have some pity on the poor heart-sick bastard. Either ask him out or put him out of his misery.”
Donovan held his hands up. “Alright alright.”
“I’m serious. Do we have more coconut milk in the walk-in?”
“There should be one behind the almond milk.”
“Aha. Found it.”
“Mm.” Donovan had a thought. He was busy writing something when Katie tapped him on the shoulder a few minutes later. She handed Donovan the finished drink and shooed him out on the floor.

Evan looked Donovan’s way, and his eyes went huge. He looked down at his phone at once. The way he was maniacally scrolling through Facebook in a panic almost made Donovan laugh. Donovan set the napkin and drink down on the table in a careful way. “There we go, enjoy your latte, Mr. Meade.”
Evan swallowed and gave Donovan a puppy gaze. “Thank you.”

Donovan walked back to the bar and wished he had eyes in the back of his head, so he could see Evan’s face when he noticed the phone number written on the napkin.

“What’s wrong?”
“After that terrorist attack, I’m still scared of cars. Please help me cross the street?”
“Aww. I can help you. If you help me not chase the cars. The yellow ones are so shiny….”
“Then we can help each other. Here, take my hand. Hold tight. I see a truck coming.”
“Ugh and it’s yellow too….Arf arf arf!”
“I think you scared it off.”
“I do too.”
“Safe to cross now?”
“Safe.”

Jon Bon Jovi

“Hm.”
“What? is it the lighting?”
Courtney looks up from her camera and makes a face. “No. The photos look like catalogue shoots. These are your engagement shots! You want to feel the love. All I’m feeling right now is a jeans commercial.”
Brandon looks at his fiance and then at Courtney. “Should we move to a new location?”
“Hmm… no I like this location,” she replies, “And the lighting. And the angle. We just need more of an interaction between you guys, I think. Something not so static.”
Kent looks at Brandon. “So…what does that mean?”
Brandon thought. “We could do that stupid game your brother does with his kids.”
“Which one?”
“The got-your-hands thing.”
Kent chuffed through his nose. “That’s for kids.”
“Oh what you think you can beat me?”
“We are not doing this.”
“Ok fine,” Brandon said. He grabbed Kent’s hands with his own. “Fine, get out of my grip then.”
“I can get out fine! I mean …I could… hey let go!” Kent insisted.
“Nope!”

Courtney watched them basically wrestle sitting down. Every time Kent pulled his hands out, Brandon grabbed him back, and Brandon had one hell of a grip. Kent was not prepared for Brandon to have a tactic – twisting the fingers together made it hard to pull away. It got silly fast. They were too busy to notice the camera whirring as the shutter speed fired.

“Let goooo!”
“Nope!”
“Ok fine, tables are turning, now I’m on offense!” Kent shouted.
“Oh god no, you have a way stronger grip!”
“Too bad!”

Mmm firmly grasp the neck 🙂

Dorian stepped in the door, which was hard, since his pup was pressed up against it trying to tackle him.
“Woah hey there boy! Down boy!”
Pup Razor chuffed at him and butted up against his legs.
“Yes yes hello.” He gave the boy a scritch behind the neck. “I am very welcomed home yes.”
“Bark!”
“Yes yes.”
After he’d been properly greeted, Razor made another bark and then trotted off.
“Oh come on, did I say something? Where are you going boy? You’re not going to steal my shoes even?”
Razor came back with an envelope in his mouth. It had teeth marks on it. It was pink and smelled like roses.
“Aww pup what is this?”
“Bark bark bark!”
“Aw you drew a heart on it. Pretty good for a dog.” Dorian teased. He took the envelope over to the couch and sat on it. He made a noise, fished out a toy from between the cushions, and then sat down. Razor sat on his haunches in front of the sofa with a shoe in his mouth.
“Oh so you did get one huh?”
“Bark!”
“Silly boy. Let’s see. What’s in here?”
Dorian opened the envelope. He pulled out a card that said, ‘You DOMinate my heart’. He laughed. “Awww this is so adorable.” When he opened it, heart confetti fell into his lap. “Oh jeez puppy!”
Razor giggled.
“Silly boy. Goodness. Oh well, that’s a mess now. What did you write here?”
“Dear Sir. Happy Valentines Day <3. <3<3<3. I like to draw hearts. Anyway. I just want to say how much I LOVE YOU and I love having you as my handler.
You have given me SO SO much support since I became your pup. You taught me how to file my taxes, to check my credit score, taught me what your mortgage is, and how to pick a better credit card. Airmiles!! Plus I feel so more confident and articulate since you have been teaching me better manners and that it’s ok to not feel like I need to challenge ever male in the world. I’ve never been so happy and understanding of my place – which is of course, at your side as your pup <3<3 You have opened my eyes by trusting me to go with events with you and be by your side. I love exploring this world of kink. I couldn’t have done it with your guidance.
I looove you so much. You are the best mentor ever. I hope you love me as much as I love you and that we can have another Valentine’s Day next year.

Love,
Pup Razor“

There was a paw print drawn under it.

“Aww pup. Puppy. This is…this is…” Dorian sniffled. “Pup this is so wonderful. Come here.” He patted his lap and Razor leapt up. Confetti went everywhere.
“Come here Razor. I love you.”
“Bark bark bark bark!” Razor expressed his love with licks and nuzzles.
Razor rubbed his neck and gave scritches to his scruff. Dorian smiled. “God you are so cute! I am so happy to come home to you and teach you everything you need to know.”

Dorian got licked and loved on until there was confetti everywhere.

When Dorian got up to decide what to make dinner, he had to laugh at what he found in the fridge. Razor had bought a steak shaped like a heart and it was in a plastic heart container.
“Is this for you Pup?”
Razor pointed to himself and titled his head. “Baroo?”
“Oh you silly boy. Alright, steak for dinner it is. Happy Valentine’s Day.”

“Bark bark!”

Julian awoke in the pre-dawn hours to the sound of tears.
It took him a moment to remember there was someone in his bed. Matt had slept over the night before. He didn’t want to be alone. Somehow they both fit on his full-size mattress.
“Matty?” he whispered. “Are you ok? Are you in pain?”
“I’m too scared!” Matt sobbed. “I don’t want to go to surgery today! Please Julian I don’t want to go!”
Julian parted his lips but no words came out. He swallowed. “Come here,” was all he could say. “Lie on me.” He encouraged Jasper to roll onto his side and onto Julian’s chest. Julian put an arm over him.
“It’s ok to be scared. Surgery is scary. Being cut open is scary. But you need to get better. I know you feel fine right now, but soon the pain meds won’t do it anymore. If that small tumor is cancer, then we can’t let it spread. It has to be biopsied. It has to go.”
“But it’s in my head,” Matt sniffled. “I don’t want them to go in there. You’re not supposed to. What if they change me?”
“I can’t guarantee nothing bad will happen if you go into surgery, Matty. But if you don’t, I know something bad will happen. It will grow. Spread. Hurt you.”
Matt whimpered.
“But if you’re a brave boy and get surgery today, that bad thing won’t happen. You’ll take a nap and it’ll magically be over. You will be good as new.”
“…But what if something goes wrong and I wake up a vegetable.”
Julian looked down on him. “I will take care of you for the rest of your life, and love you just the same.”
Matty began to cry again. “I love you Julian. I know you just think of me as your pesky best friend but…I really love you. You’re like a blood brother to me.”
Julian felt a lump form in his throat. “I love you too, my little dove. I want you to be healthy. Will get the surgery for me?”
There was a hiccup. “Yes. I’ll do it for you. All that tumor does is threaten to take me away from you. I want to be with you without it there. I hate knowing it’s in my head right now.”
“That’s it, doveling. That’s the right attitude. What’s the Prodigy song you like so much?”
That got a small smile out of Matt. “Invaders must die.”
“Exactly. We don’t have to be at the hospital until 7. Let’s got a few more minutes of sleep ok?”
“Ok, Julian.” Matt says, snuggling Julian’s pectoral. “This is so nice. I feel so safe.”
“When you wake up in the hospital after surgery, I’ll be resting next to you so you can cuddle me ok?”
“I – I would love that.”
“Then it’s settled. Now sleep a minute.”
Matt just sighed.

And soon the room was quiet except Matt’s little hiccups. Julian stroked his hair until it was time to get up. Julian couldn’t fall back asleep. He could sleep while Matt was in surgery. Right now, Matt needed a protector. Julian wished there was something he could do to protect Matty from this tumor. He hoped keeping him positive and strong would help them conquer the fight. “I’ll do all I can for you.” Julian whispered in the quiet room, and crossed himself to seal the promise.

John e-mailed his mother in early December:

Look mom! We got portraits done for our holiday cards. Aren’t you proud of me? I still can’t believe it. i’m not hooked up with some gang-banger, but dating a sweater-wearing dentist!! I’m so happy. You did the right thing by sending me off to live with Uncle Ted in Vermont when I was in high school. Lord knows how my life would have turned out. I’d be in jail or dead if I stayed in Baltimore, the road I was going down. Scares me sometimes to think about it. Love this picture. Isn’t Caesar cute?? I want to snuggle him to bits. Oh btw – did you notice what was on my finger? 🙂 Guess we better start planning come january….
