bookofbaitnate sent me this but since it was a reply I couldn’t publish it, so I’m pushing it manually so I can reply back:
I was gonna ask, do you have a DeviantArt? I have some longer smutty stories written there if you’re interested. My profile is Kaleidoscopicdoom, and well all my stuff…
Being guilty of frequently removing other people’s posts, I’d like to add a little of my own perspective. I’ve also had some of my captions removed by other who repost them from my Tumblr.
When I decide to remove someone else’s captions, it’s usually because it’s spam-ish (links, signatures, etc.) or because I simply don’t like it (nazi references, violence, or wording that I don’t want on my blog). I’ve even edited captions to remove such wording although I tend to indicate this as an edited post. When a caption is good, I will either keep it, add to it, or if I want to add my own, I try (but I’m not systematic there) to go back to the original poster.
I enjoy writing small captions on pictures that inspire me. And I absolutely love it when that caption serves to inspire others to continue the story or take it somewhere else. But fundamentally, I write them because I enjoy the caption. They work for me, for the fantasy I’ve created with that photo at the moment I saw the photo. And if you reshare the photo and remove my caption, I personally don’t really care much: it’s more likely I only spent less than a minute coming up with it and writing it anyway. All in all, I’ve received compliments about those captions and I’ve seen some old ones that are still making their rounds. Keep reading them, keep sharing them, keep removing them. As long as we have a good time and keep Kleenex™ in business.
Thanks for your input on this! I admit to having removing a caption or two due to the caption being violent or uncomfortably non-consensual.
That said, Kleenex should be goddamn sponsoring us writers.
